El arte contemporáneo busca sus raíces primitivas para conformar un nuevo estilo visual dándole paso al primimodernismo, un conjunto pictórico que estará expuesto en la Biblioteca Departamental Jorge Garcés Borrero, a partir de este mar

Se trata de una técnica presentada en grandes escenarios del mundo y de la cual el 80 por ciento de los cuadros son nuevos en nuestro medio.

La directora de la Biblioteca Departamental del Valle, Juliana Garcés Saroli, explicó que la exposición es un trabajo de varios años de la artista visual Norey Agudelo, una pintora con importantes vínculos en Cali, pues fue aquí donde se inició artísticamente, aunque gran parte de su obra ha sido realizada en los Estados Unidos, donde ha residido en los últimos años..

Agregó la directora de la Biblioteca Departamental Jorge Garcés Borrero que la pintora presentará una retrospectiva de su obra a partir de las 6:30 p.m. del martes 5 de Octubre. Durante el acto inaugural de la exposición se hará una presentación en vídeo que resume el trabajo de la autora entre los años 1980 y 2010.

Norey Agudelo realizará además, en la Biblioteca Departamental Jorge Garcés Borrero, dos talleres de arte Primimodernista, los dias 27 y 29 de octubre, desde las 2:30 p.m., los cuales estarán abiertos a la comunidad sin costo alguno pero con cupo limitado.

La artista:

Norey Agudelo se formó artísticamente en Cali desde 1969, aunque sus inicios datan desde 1958. Imprime en su obra los valores estéticos autóctonos y cuenta en su haber profesional más de un centenar de exposiciones nacionales e internacionales con importantes reconocimientos a nivel mundial. Ha presentado la tendencia de arte Primimodernista en dos ocasiones en las Naciones Unidas y dictado diferentes conferencias en Colombia y en USA para estudiantes y comunidades del arte moderno internacional.

		"Children a Universal Treasure" oil on canvas mural, 60"h x 70"w, 1994



		This masterpiece describes six children expressing happiness, innocence, and curiosity. Their sight is directed toward the angels above, and they listen as the trumpet announce the arrival of the sense of Harmony. The dove in the center above represents the Peace to be shared with children. Beneath the line, a dove represents the children in a state of innocence, being completely free of family violence and slavery. "Let us take care of our most precious treasure: the children. They will bring the testimony of wisdom to adults." This painting was donated to the United Nations in 1994.

"Flight of the Lambs" oil on canvas, 2001



This masterpiece, made one week afer the tragedy on September 11, 2001, brings some sadness into our hearts for those innocent people who lost their lives. It also brings hope as an awakening of the spiritual life, because this tragedy affected every single person in the U.S. and around the world. The intensity of this tragedy created a new conception of the world and its desires. The beauty of personal strength radiates in the way we approach our senses. "This must never happen again."

	"The Human Values" oil on canvas, 4'0"h x 4'6"w, 1985



	This masterpiece contains inherent human values as exhibited by a human figure we see at right with an expression of sadness. His tears are of gold and represent the value of our sacrifices in the beginning of a struggle to set goals. Colors symbolize debility and anguish: the guitar without strings and death depicted in its natural states represent the prioritization of necessities in this constant struggle. In this same sense, three human figures manifest the facets of just one person. The environment around these figures gives a sense of peace, movement, and life.

Norey Agudelo's artwork has brought a significant new trend of painting to the United States from South America. In a 1980 exhibition at the Government Hall of Valle in Cali, Colombia, Ms. Agudelo introduced a new concept called "El Primimodernismo," as a personal idea based both on her observation of the visionary motifs in Pre-Colombian Indian art, and the styles of Universal Modernism. Incorporating these principles into a theory she describes as "Human Activation Through History," she presents a sympathetic view of the human effects of major international events, such as the 9/11 tragedy. Noriam's art elevates the spiritual sense of destiny and human drama.

Over the years, Noriam's paintings show a development through several stages of her personal artistic style. In earlier work, color usage goes from gradations of muted colors within various tonal ranges but evolves in later work into expressions of harmoniously contrasted bright rhythmic values. The composition of the canvas field evolves from topological layouts of similar figures into a deeply inspiring and poignant telling of the story between two or three figures -- including symbolized forms such as the white dove of an ascending soul.

In "Human Rescue," a mural painting, Norey Agudelo uses stylized figures combined with flat color to empahsize man as a suffering yet universal being. In a later work,"Flight of the Lambs," her figures are charged with highly expressive color and form, and through a triangulation in the placement of the two figures and a dove, tell the story at a glance. Focus is placed at the center of human emotion. Facial expressions are refined into three-dimensional personalities with sensitive and subtly-expressed individualities, each providing an evocative depth of human understanding -- primary colors, like red and yellow, for primal feeling. From the complexity of backgrounds of flat colors depicting surreal locations there emerges the later interpretations of textured multi-layered dimensions: spatial realms which appear real but seem beyond time.

Ms. Norey Agudelo's work as a teacher and an artist represents a deep and significant contribution to a Humanistic interpretation of life in our time, and the evolution of pictorial art itself. Born in Pereira, she obtained a degree in 1975 in Visual Arts from the Popular Institute of Culture in Cali, Before coming to live in the US in 2001, she was Department Director of the Arts School, and art teacher at Alfredo Vasquez Cobo College and at Colombo Britanico High School in Cali. In addition to the 1994 exhibition of her work at the UN, her artworks have been exhibited around the world -- in Colombia, in Mino, Japan, in New Haven, CT, and in New Jersey museums in Bergen, Passaic, and Patterson. She has donated large murals to social causes for the International Immigrants Foundation of the UN and the Consulate of Colombia in New York City. She has written her research on the civic expressions of art, and the appropriation of public spaces, and has received many well-deserved certificates of honor and achievement.

EL PRIMIMODERNISMO OF NOREY AGUDELO "NORIAM"

1.a. El PRIMIMODERNISMO

1.a.i. THE ORIGINS

Once I was finalizing my superior studies in Fine Arts at the Institute of Popular Culture in Cali, Colombia in 1975, I was searching about all trends along Art History and understanding the why and how those aesthetic components were important in each stage of the art history, some of those were the Pre-Columbian Art specially. Then, after my researching and making my conclusions, I finally decided to create a new tendency of the Contemporary art that could reunify two moments in history: The first one identifies the expressions from the Primitive art, thru the Pre-Columbian Art, and the second moment identifies those tendencies formed thru the Modernism and Contemporary Art. This aesthetic fusion has its own identity because it is based on the human senses. That is why I categorically denominated this tendency as: "El PRIMIMODERNISMO" since 1980.

1.a.ii CONTENT OF EL PRIMIMODERNISMO - DEFINITIONS

By exploring the basic components of this tendency, we could find an aesthetic parallel of the first stages of the primitive thinking but also the modern thinking which is represented in several real and metaphoric figures that make an understanding of the context of the environment. These impressions of the context appear into the Primimodernist masterpieces combined with elements that surround the human figure as the principal character into the aesthetic scenario. We could also identify faces with primitive features, an interfusion of elements that makes possible the presence of other art tendencies of great diversity like the Pre-Columbian Art thru the tendencies of the Modern and Contemporary art based on abstractionism and surrealism between others.

It's principal characteristic is the human thematic and it's aesthetic configuration corresponds to the category of the POST-MODERNIST tendencies. I conclude that that EL RPIMIMODERNISMO is an expression that rescues the past but also unifies the present. That is why the International Community has opened his mind to assimilate this tendency as a relevant event into the World Wide Universe of Arts.

1.a.iii. THE PRIMIMODERNISMO MANIFESTO:

Number 4.- Compromising the reconciliation of the Human Rights.

Number 5.- Attention to the equal rights between men and women specially.

Number 6.- Enduring what Peace means among the humankind.

Number 7.- Cultural compromising with people of all nations.

Number 8.- Attention to values of the universal art.

Number 9.- Promoting the principles of El Primimodernismo in the new
generations of artists to keeping it as a legacy.

Number 10.- El Primimodernismo art work has to be exhibited all over the world as a testimony of the excellence of the Latin-American art.
